We had two professions of faith this week in worship. This
was a very exciting time in the life of the church.
Both Stacy and Chris are very active in the church, and
their faith has been tested through some very hard times in life.
And yet, it was through those times, when things were the
hardest that this church was the most Christ like. They supported Stacy and
Chris with their prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. It is through
the church’s witness in the worst of times that these two knew God had not
abandoned them. Chris shared that he knew about God all his life, but now he
knows God personally.
Through the church’s compassion, Stacy and Chris are able to
do the same for others, and really understand what those vows mean and how to
live them out. Stacy attends worship faithfully, gives generously, and serves
whenever she can. Leslie Barton and I are were visiting after she made a trip
to Walmart and had ran into Stacy at her job. She shared how Stacy had
witnessed to her faith and shared about her church even with Leslie, a complete
stranger.
Chris, too, is very active in our congregation. Along with
his prayers, he hardly ever misses a Sunday. He is chairing our nurture
committee and part of our Fruitful Congregation Journey team. He even won our
Steward of the King award last fall for his hours in service he has put in as a
volunteer. Chris helps out with KICK too. He has witnessed to what God has brought
him through this year as he has been sick.
Stacy and Chris both stand as examples for all of us about
what it means to be a member of Christ’s kingdom. I could not be more honored
to be part of their commitment to Christ and his church. I pray God uses them
to do mighty things. I pray that he continues to transform them into Christ’s
likeness, and through that transformation they transform La Fontaine and
beyond.
